But the grief inspired her to take the plunge and do the soul-baring shoot, with three rules; no clothes, no make-up and no retouching.

The pop star appears completely naked and makeup-free in a new series of portraits by photographer Patrick Ecclesine. The provocative and gorgeous! In another, the "Cool for the Summer" singer is in the tub and cupping her breasts with her hands. A couple of the pics taken in a bed include one of Lovato naked and on her stomach with a camera in her hand. In an essay accompanying the photos, Ecclesine writes that the two were talking about "sadness" that night because Lovato's great-grandfather Buddy Moore had passed away the day before. Demi Lovato always exudes perfection -- in her hair, makeup and costumes, but the pop star ditched the made-up look for a magazine shoot in which she appears nude. Images on the magazine's website show her nude as she poses, both standing and sitting, on a bed and in a bathtub. She wears a wet T-shirt in some poses, and the nude images expose her tattoos. Lovato has gone without makeup before. She started the hashtag NoMakeupMonday, and posts images of her makeup-free face weekly on Instagram.

It was half past midnight when Demi Lovato announced that it was time to take her clothes off. Quite frankly, neither could I.
