Rainy weather seems to be the norm for most of the country this February. Most of the news seems to have focused on the recent flooding throughout much of the southeast. The northern California reservoir has a unique way of dealing with high water situations. At a lake elevation of over feet, the water in Lake Berryessa flows into its built in drain pipe, affectionately known as the Gloryhole. Berryessa is held back by Monticello Dam, a foot tall arch-style concrete structure. The lake contains 20, surface acres and one 72 foot wide hole. The Gloryhole is a morning glory or a bell-mouth spillway that is not controlled by gates but by gravity.
Josh and his co-angler Nick Lynch had a very consistent season finding themselves in the top 10 in almost every event. Michael Nelson and Rod Smith caught a very hefty five fish limit. Their largest weighed 3-pounds, 6-ounces and all five fish combined weight exceeded pounds. We do encourage catch and release of brown trout, as there does not seem to be a large population of them in the lake.
