Stalwart fans might carp that it loses something without the murk and that whiff of alien samizdat. At that point, naturally, the sexual partners vanish, possibly into that void Scarlett Johansson so dutifully tended in Under the Skin , a film no less serious than Liquid Sky. My heart and eyes disagree that this digital sprucing is apostasy: The tangerine skylines, sweat-slick club dancers, grubby-chic apartments, ubiquitous neon, lavishly asymmetrical hairdos and so-primitive-they-fascinate alien effects demand truly to be seen. Each man Margaret expels to the void is another hole in the club scene. Tsukerman and Carlisle capture and honor the essence of a scene but also push that essence, tease it out like the towering pompadour she wears as Margaret to otherworldly heights. And Tsukerman, working with Neyman, has captured a singular vision of a twilight Manhattan haunted by the lost, the daring, the damned, the jonesing — and some aliens.

The Downtown New Wave Alien-Sex Extravaganza “Liquid Sky” Looks Better Than Ever
Harry Smith is your typical sexually-unfulfilled husband whose wife Olivia is more interested in UFOs than in him. With the help of his friend Sam, Harry makes Olivia believe that he has been abducted by aliens, when really he has an affair with the new dancer at the strip club which he and his wife own. But the tables are turned when Harry really is abducted by aliens, and they give him the remarkable ability to bring a woman to orgasm simply by looking at her. A dude wants to cheat on his wife, so he stages a fake alien abduction, but then he really gets abducted. And the aliens confuse him with a Roman gladiator and give him the power to give women orgasms just by "concentrating.
The film is seen as heavily influencing a club scene that emerged in the early s in Brooklyn, Berlin, Paris, and London called electroclash. A New Wave fashion show is to be held in a crowded Manhattan nightclub. Among the models are bisexual, cocaine-addicted Margaret and Jimmy.
