This pair is distinctive in that the former is a research unit composed entirely of academic staff while the latter is an educational unit intended for graduate students. In addition to its core permanent faculty members, the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies III has a number of positions reserved for faculty seconded from other departments of the University for a fixed term. The teaching staff is further supplemented by faculty members who remain affiliated to their original departments but adopt an adjunct role in the III. The result of this arrangement is a rich diversity of highly qualified teachers and advisors for students enrolled in the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies GSII. Although instruction in the first five of these courses is mostly through the medium of Japanese, classes and supervision in the last-mentioned program ITASIA are conducted entirely through the medium of English and require no knowledge of the Japanese language.

Its aim is to "promote technological change and sustainable development" in the Asia-Pacific region, through higher education, research, and outreach. Founded in as SEATO Graduate School of Engineering with a mission to develop highly qualified and committed professionals to foster sustainable development of the region and its integration into the global economy , it receives funding from organizations and governments around the world initially from SEATO members. In , it was described as "an excellent example of not only the initiative and organization of a technical university, but also of the success of a foreign aid program". It sees itself as being "recognized for its multinational, multi-cultural ethos. On 21 October , AIT's campus was inundated by two-meter-high floodwaters. From October , AIT celebrated its 60th anniversary [7] [8].

This major aims to provide a systematic connection from the three departments of the Faculty of Science and Technology, including the Department of Materials and Life Science, the Department of Computer and Information Science, and the Department of Systems Design Engineering, to the Graduate School. Based on the social mission demanded of the field of science and technology, three courses including the Materials and Life Science Course, the Computer and Information Science Course, and the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Course, are offered in the major program of the Graduate School of Science and Technology. This major also actively promotes joint research with various companies, enabling students to acquire practical skills. Students of the Graduate School receive research guidance on an individual level in an enhanced research environment and facilities.
