Martin Gerstell treasures his Thursday morning volunteer stint at the National Gallery of Art, where he fields questions at the main information desk. He patiently responds when visitors ask about the current exhibits, whether the paintings are real, where the bathrooms are. Usually, fellow volunteers give him a ride from his assisted living residence in northwest Washington to the museum downtown, and home again. Gerstell, 94, uses the Uber app his granddaughter installed on his iPhone. Gerstell said of his Uber drivers, who fold and stash his walker in the trunk.

One of the reasons the Ride to Montauk is so popular is that it is one of THE flattest rides in the entire area. We pedal on quiet back roads past mansions, the ocean, farms, windmills, and the most beautiful sections of the Hamptons. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this is the ride for you! ALL routes end in Montauk, so even if your friends are pedaling a different distance, you can all meet up at a rest stop or at the finish for the post-ride party! How is that possible?

Cycling can bring about a feeling of greater self-esteem, self-control and the ability to rise to a challenge — making you feel good about yourself and the world around you. With no glass window between yourself and the open road, your mind is more likely to be occupied by your surroundings rather than any negative thoughts. Getting out on your bike is one of the easiest ways to exercise — you can ride almost anywhere and at any time of the year.
