Of all the people to thank for the existence of The Wolf of Wall Street , actor and stoner icon Tommy Chong is the guy who ultimately made it happen. Chong served a jail sentence in the same Californian prison as Jordan Belfort and the two were cellmates. According to Business Insider , Belfort told Chong stories from his career on Wall Street during their jail stay together and Chong encouraged him to collect those stories into a memoir— which became the basis for the movie. He thought the story would tie in nicely with the then-recent financial collapse. His book depicts the depraved antics of his life, warts and all, and DiCaprio appreciated that.

The action-packed romantic comedy features Bullock as a romance novelist who ends up on a cutthroat jungle adventure with her cover model, played by Tatum.
